February 2014 Dr. Paul Brady

Our February 2014 speaker was Dr. Paul Brady, an orthopedic surgeon who invented the "dog bone," a surgical device that is implanted in a weak shoulder to give the joint more strength.

Dr. Paul Brady did a spectacular job with his presentation in February. He is definitely one of us, needing to fix something and tinkering until a solution is found! He has been very successful with his Dog Bone Implant and the other patents he received on other procedures to make shoulder repair more efficient.

As Carl Papa noted, "Knock on wood, I don’t need a shoulder operation now, but if I did, he would certainly be the one I would call."

The March presenter is Richard Steinle. Richard has contacts with channel 10 and has an idea about shooting a video segment on several inventors, then putting the snippets together into a 30 minute video which will be edited then aired on channel 10.

Our April 26th meeting will also be interesting. Andy Pokelwaldt from the Oak Ridge Lab will explain new composite materials, including Carbon Fiber. Unfortunately we cannot meet at LMU in May. LMU students will need every classroom on May 24th, so there are no available rooms for us to meet. In May and only May we will be meeting at our regular time at the Comcast office located at 410 Cedar Bluff Road, Suite 200, Knoxville 37923. Our June meeting will be back at LMU.
